General
Characteristics
The versatility
of DriTac 6200 allows for flashed off or dry
installations giving the installer great flexibility.
DriTac 6200 spreads very easily. Expect little or no grab from the
adhesive initially. As DriTac dries, it becomes increasingly tacky,
ultimately producing a very aggressive grab. Working installation time
is several hours if the adhesive surface is kept clean of dust, dir-! or
anything that may hinder a good bonrk
The
time it takes DriTac 6200 to attain its aggressive grab will differ with
temperature, humidity, moisture content of the subfloor and the trowel
size used. At 70 F and 60% humidity it will take approx. 45 minutes to
one hour for DriTac 6200 to become tacky.
Fans can be used to create air flow and speed up drying time. Do
not allow construction dust to settle on the adhesives surface.
DriTac can be
used to install over the following approved substrates
Plywood A.P.A. standard underlayment particle
board
Terrazzo Existing vinyl tile flooring
Concrete; above, on, or below grade
. Existing
fully adhered, non-cushioned sheet vinyl
Underlayment grade O.S.B.
Subfloors Must meet these
requirements
All subfloors must be smooth, dry, clean, flat and free of dirt,
grease, wax, paint, oil or anything that would hinder a good bond.
Trisodiumphosphate (TSP) can be used to clean vinyl surfaces. Concrete
subfloors not meeting this standard may be scoured with 3 1/2 open coat
paper (20 grit) then vacuumed clean.
When installing over existing hard surface floors, remove finish to
allow a good mechanical bond.
Do not install over old cutback petroleum adhesives, These must be
removed completely or covered with a Portland cement leveling compound.
Do not install cork
flooring over gypsum
based levelers.
Complete drying of leveling compounds is critical before
installation, While cure time may only take a few hours, the complete
drying time of these compounds can take 24 hours or more, Please read
manufacturers instructions.
Radiant heated subfloors -
Turn off heat in
slab and jet it cool to room temperature, Turn the boiler back on after
installation. Industry standards for radiant heated floors should be
followed by restricting boiler from exceeding 110 f. and limiting
the slab surface temperature to 85 f throughout the life of the floor.
Epoxy and poured vapor barriers may leave an oily residue after
application, which should be removed, The vapor barriers surface
should be abraded or lightly sanded and cleaned thoroughly.
When using new sheet vinyl as a vapor barrier or for use with sheet
vinyl when used as a moisture barrier over concrete, DriTac Vinyl Primer
must be applied. The primer must dry thoroughly before applying DriTac
6200. Refer to DRITAC Vinyl Primer instructions.
If there is a concern about adhesion to any subfloor,
install a test area before installing the entire floor.
Subfloors must be flat to 3/16 in a 10 radius.
Checking for and avoiding excessive moisture in every
subfloor is a must.
Look around for visible water stains on the drywall and
subfloor, particularly on concrete.
Moisture
Testing:
DriTac
Adhesive Group requires the use of
moisture tests on all concrete and wood subfloors. Subfloor moisture
percentages should not exceed the flooring manufacturers or DriTac
Adhesive Groups recommendations, whichever is lowest. If excessive
moisture is present use an appropriate vapor barrier.
The Calcium Chloride test measures moisture emissions in concrete. The
maximum level for moisture emissions from concrete when installing
nonporous flooring (e.g. vinyl tile) is 3 pounds per 1,000 square foot
area over a 24 hour period, The maximum level when installing wood
flooring is 4 pounds per 1,000 square feet over 24 hours.
DriTac recommends using a Tramex Concrete Moisture Encounter meter for
reliable concrete testing, The Tramex meter should be pressed firmly to
the subfloor for an accurate reading. The maximum reading on concrete
for vinyl installations should not exceed Son the top scale on the
meter. Maximum reading for wood installations should not exceed 4 1/2 on
the meter. For more information on the Tramex meters call DriTac
Adhesive Group 800-394-9310
Moisture
in wood subfloors should be measured with a wood moisture meter. The
moisture content should not exceed 14%, Subfloors should be within 5% of
the wood floorings moisture content. Read flooring manufacturers
moisture standards. A moisture meter can also be used to measure
moisture in concrete. Follow the instructions carefully. Moisture meters
measure wood and concrete differently.
The
Accelerated Plastic Film test is a good indicator test for concrete
moisture. Tape 2 x 2 poly film squares with duct tape to the concrete
subfloor in several areas throughout floor. Position a light close
enough to warm the surface of the plastic film (approximately 18).
Lift the squares after 24-72 hours, If moisture condensation is present
on the film or if the concrete has darkened this indicates moisture is
present.
Trowel
Size
Incorrect
trowel size due to wear will void warranty. change trowel blades
often.
For
Cork Floors use a 1/8"x1/8"x1/8" U notched trowel
DriTac Trowel # DT-2
80 square feet per gallon spread rate
CORK
INSTALLATIONS:
Do not install vinyl
backed cork flooring
with
DriTac 6200.
Flooring should always acclimate to Live In temperature and
humidity conditions. HUMIDITY MUST NOT EXCEED 75%
Allow DriTac 6200 to dry. It will change from white to translucent when
dry. Ensuring the adhesive is thoroughly dry will help prevent cupping
and warping of tile. Drying time will vary with temperature and humidity
conditions. (To speed up drying time, a fan may be used).
Allow expansion
space.
Roll the floor
with 100-150 lb. roller.
VENTILATION: Installers
should provide adequate cross ventilation during and for 24 hours after
installation,
KEEP FROM FREEZING:
While this adhesive is freeze thaw stable to 25 f (up
to two cycles), it is necessary to keep from freezing. If the
adhesive freezes, it cannot be used, it will become difficult to trowel,
lumpy (or solid) and will not adhere to the floor.
CAUTION: Xylene
7.7% O.A.S. #133-20-7 Eye irritant: Avoid eye contact. In case of
eye contact, flush eye for fifteen minutes. If irritation persists, get
medical attention, Use with adequate ventilation.
Keep out of reach of
children.
WARRANTY: This product is warranted to be free of
manufacturing defects. If a manufacturing defect is found within one
year from the date of purchase, such defective product shall be
replaced. No warranty either expressed or implied is made regarding the
performance of this product since conditions under which these goods are
transported, stored, used or applied are beyond our control. This
warranty is made in lieu of all other warranties either expressed or

incidental, special or other damages no mailer what the cause.
These directions are general guidelines for flooring
installations. It is the
responsibility of the installer to determine the proper drying time of
the adhesive, trowel size to be used and acceptability of the subfloor.
CLEANUP:
Wet adhesive can be removed with a damp cloth. DriTac
6200 can be removed with mineral spirits or a safe solvent,
